Sigmoidoscopy is a diagnostic procedure that allows doctors to examine the inside of the rectum, sigmoid colon, and part of the descending colon. A flexible sigmoidoscope ? a thin, flexible tube about 60 cm long with a light and tiny camera ? is gently inserted into the anus to capture detailed images of the lower large intestine. This procedure helps detect inflammation, abnormal growths, ulcers, polyps, and signs of colorectal cancer. It is often recommended when patients experience symptoms such as rectal bleeding, chronic diarrhoea, constipation, or unexplained abdominal pain. Booking is mandatory for the procedure.
